Research colloquium
Exchange on doctoral projects in the history of science and technology at the BUW
The Interdisciplinary Center for Science and Technology Studies (IZWT) is hosting its research colloquium on the history of science and technology on 20 April 2026. Starting at 4 pm, doctoral students will present and discuss their ongoing doctoral projects in the seminar room on the 6th floor of the GSH (Kasinostr. 19-21, 42103 Wuppertal).
Three lectures will offer insights into a wide range of topics. Sabrina Engert reflects on the theoretical challenges and results from her first phase of work in her project Cosmos, Body, Canon - Epistemic Authorities between Dissection and Reorganisation (c. 1500-1700) under the title "Escaping the Theory Thicket". Pablo Gómez Samper poses the question "What is an Algebra Book in 16th-century Europe?" as part of his dissertation on geometric demonstrations in early modern algebra, analysing the traditions and innovations of mathematical practice. Tim Lork approaches questions of demarcation in the history of science with his lecture "Abgrenzung im Zwiesel-Zwist: Annäherungen an eine Typologie der Demarkationsarbeit", which is part of his overarching project on the history of demarcation.
All interested parties are cordially invited!
